NINE INCH NAILS: Oakland Show Postponed; Replacement Drummer To Be Announced
September 30, 2005NINE INCH NAILS have postponed their previously scheduled September 30 performance at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California due to ongoing concerns over drummer Jerome Dillon's health. "Dillon is returning to Los Angeles immediately to undergo tests for problems related to a heart condition discovered earlier this month while on tour," reads a posting on the group's web site. "The rescheduled date will be November 19th at the same venue. As of press time, no other dates are being rescheduled. Replacement drummer information will be forthcoming."
In a separate posting on NIN.com, NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor addressed the rather shameless speculation on various message boards surrounding the cause of Jerome's health condition.
"Jerome Dillon does not have a drinking or drug problem," Trent writes on the site. "His illness is not the result of abuse, nor are there any purposefully vague statements about what's really going on with him. I am sure he is as frustrated and upset with the situation as everybody else. This is not his fault.
"Next, I don't spend that much backstage and offstage time with the band, because their agenda is different from my own. They occasionally drink and party — I don't. When I was leaving the venue last night and found out the news about Jerome after everyone else — I was in a separate dressing room down the hall. Make sense?
"Jerome is a great drummer and a great guy. We all wish him the best and hope to see him behind the drums again soon. At the present time, his performing live with us places him in a potentially very harmful situation."
In a recent interview with the San Diego Reader, NIN manager Jim Guirenot talked in about the cause of Dillon's illness and the cancellation of the group's San Diego show earlier this month.
"Trent is sober," said Guirenot. "He wouldn't have anyone doing drugs on his team. Jerome is not a drug taker. He's the one guy in the band who ends up in the gym with Trent."
"Everyone was overworked," said Guirenot. "And drummers tend to work harder, anyway.... Everyone [backstage] thought he was having a heart attack."
